How do I get alerted at the end of a bar?

Hey everyone,
I am having a bit of a rough time setting up alerts based on the simple moving average. I want my alerts to notify me when the close AND the open is above/below the simple moving average. I used the wizard condition trying to make this alert and checked it with the condition set up. All seemed perfect but when I actually made the alert it was not working as it supposed to do. I think the problem is that the alert is checking the conditons per tick and I want the alert check the conditons per bar. So is there a way the alert only checks the conditions at the end of the bar and not during the make of the bar?
Thank you for your help! Really appreciate it 🙂

In the Condition Wizard, the metric you need to adjust is called "offset". Positive values cause the condition to look at previous bars. So an offset of 1 will have the condition look at the previous bar instead of the current bar. The net affect will be that when the new bar opens the alert will trigger based on the previous bar meeting the condition.

Alright, thanks Pete! This should work! Another quick question: does TradeStation also have these alerts with the open and close of a bar above/below the simple moving average? Unfortunately I cant check for myself because it takes a really long time to open an account. Thanks again!

For TradeStation, the only alerts I am aware of are strictly tied to a chart study. You can get alerts from the charts or from the RadarScreen. I am not aware if they have the ability to create alerts on the fly such as we can through the Study Alert feature on Thinkorswim. But I haven't really taken any time to do an extensive search for various kinds of alerts on TradeStation. The benefit of using Thinkorswim Study Alerts is that those run on the servers of Thinkorswim and you do not need to be logged in for the alerts the work. TradeStation is very different in that almost everything on the platform runs locally on your computer and requires you to be logged in and connected to the internet for any of it's features to work. So if they do have alerts that run on a server it would most likely show up on their web based trading platform. Which is one tool I have zero experience with.
