How far back in time does TOS allow backtesting? I think I read it works for only the most recent year.

That entirely depends on how much data you load onto the chart. Each time frame has limits as to how much historical data you can load. For example, a 5 min chart can only go back 20 days. While a daily chart can go back as much as 20 years. Marked as spam
